April 5th marks National Walking Day 🥾

It’s an annual event founded by the American Heart Association which takes place on the first Wednesday in April.

The reason behind National Walking Day?

To raise awareness about the importance of physical activity in maintaining good health and reducing the risk of heart disease and other nasties.

It’s a day where individuals, communities, and workplaces are encouraged to participate in walking events and organize walking groups 🌲

A ‘fun run’ springs to mind…

Top Tip: Don’t overdo it on the pasta beforehand.

So, why pair it with a “Hot Girl Walk”?

Because walking isn’t just great for your fitness, it’s great for your mind.

So, what is a “Hot Girl Walk”?

It’s 2020, one of the toughest years we’ve seen. Mia Lind was looking for a way to move and stop spending too much time in her own thoughts.

So, what did she do?

She created the Hot Girl Walk

It’s a four-mile mindfulness walk where you can only think about three things:

🙏 Things you’re grateful for

💕 Your goals and how you want to achieve them

🔥 Most importantly, how hot you are

And thinking about drama is totally off limits 🚨

Mia says “a lot of people are thinking that the Hot Girl Walk is about weight loss, but it’s not. The biggest transformations are the ones that start internally.”

“A Hot Girl Walk is all about building confidence so that you know you can achieve anything you set your mind to.”

The benefits of walking

There are many benefits you can get from walking and exercise. Some of which include:

  • Maintaining your weight
  • Staying on top of your fitness goals
  • Increase cardiovascular fitness
  • Better sleep

But walking also releases endorphins which are chemicals in the brain that can improve mood and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. And nature walks have also been shown to have greater benefits for mental health ⛰️

How to prepare for your walk

If you need route inspiration, there are tons of free walking apps out there that can help you easily plan a walk near you. You'll just need to enter the area you'd like to explore and it’ll show a list of walks nearby.

Let those legs take you places you ain’t ever been before 💅

And most importantly…

Be safe: If you decide to use a walking app and take a different route to usual, let someone know where you’re going. This is especially important if your sense of direction is… questionable.

You can’t be hot if you’re not safe 🔥

Walking and exploring the outdoors is an easy and accessible way to improve your health and wellbeing. And it’s totally free.
