Explains why the Card might have been declined

So, your Credit Builder Card got declined – we certainly don’t want that happening. It's worth knowing that it may have been declined due to our merchant hold rules.

What are they?

Some merchants may temporarily hold a larger payment from your available credit in case of added charges later on. Like a hotel holding money in case you use the minibar.

Why do they matter?

A hold can dip your available credit below what you need for your next purchase.

To avoid surprises, simply turn on notifications for real-time spending updates.

You will receive a merchant hold on your card at the following places:

  • Hotel or motel: 20% hold of the transaction value for 30 days

  • Gas station: $45 hold for 3 days for transactions at the pump

  • Airline: 20% hold of the transaction value for 30 days

  • Auto rental: 20% hold of the transaction value for 30 days

If it’s one of the above, you can get round this issue by adding more funds to your Credit Builder Card.

Didn’t see the type of merchant that caused the transaction to be decline? If you were after a little snack or something else at a vending machine, you're out of luck. Unfortunately the card cannot work at these machines for now.
